The world is days away from the 22nd century and humanity is in a precarious state, decimated by wars over water and religion. Down in the former State of Texas the giant strongman Harold Hag rules his tribe and territory with a brutal hand. Surrounded by a desert known as the Scald, the Hags have come from all walks of life, submitting to Harold's bizarre and barbaric religion. The key tenet of this religion? Technology is a tool of Satan and has brought misery upon the world. As the Hags sink further into sadism, hidden away in a little church across the Scald is a band of twelve survivors. Led by a famous physicist and his black cylinder called Angel, they rely on stealth and drones to hide from the Hags. But the drones reveal something seemingly impossible, and the twelve must risk everything to act. Their fate lies with Nik and Mari, whose lethal blade combat skills will be put to the ultimate test. How can two take on thousands? By shaking the foundations of their faith.
