ANGEL McKeough is a young widow working as a hatcheck girl at a gentlemen's club to support her son after her husband is killed in an automobile accident. She believes all men are dogs, looking for a place to bury their bone. GARMIN Maximilian is a half human, immortal being from the underworld. His view of women is that women should not have an opinion.

The two come together in a tale of love, lust, violence, death and new beginnings when Garmin comes topside to find a mate, and Angel fits the bill. After a whirlwind courtship, he proposes marriage, believing Angel will fall into his arms. When she won't go willingly, he abducts her. Along the journey, they fall in love.
As they near the veil, separating the two worlds, Garmin learns mortals cannot live in his world. He sends Angel out of harm's way and is left to spend eternity alone, unless love can find a way to bridge the gap between his world and hers.
