Is there anything sweeter than the love of a big brother for his younger sister? In Astro Projecting with Charlie Novella, Dr. Michael Canzoniero weaves a tale of sibling love that will touch your heart. It's the story of eleven-year-old Charlie's rescue of his kidnapped younger sister, Scoochie. He's written a sweet story combining mystery and friendship with a dash of puppy love and a bit of spun-down psychological counseling. He'd liken Astro Projecting with Charlie Novella to The Goonies. Charlie's father, an FBI agent, must testify against a Brooklyn mob. To keep them safe, the family is to be split up and hidden away from Brooklyn. Before they can leave, however, asthmatic Scoochie is kidnapped and held by two of the mobsters, the big, fat, clumsy Ganootz brothers. Though safely hidden, heartbroken Charlie decides he must rescue Scoochie before her asthma medicine runs out. To save Scoochie, Charlie gets help. The god, Hermes, Zeus' messenger between our world and the heavens has seen what's happened and he gives Charlie the gift of astro projection. With it, Charlie learns how to let his mind go places while his body stays behind. Charlie plans to use astro projection to save Scoochie but he can't do alone, he needs friends to help. Trying to make friends in his new school, he tells a story about driving a car while mobsters were shooting at him. Most of the class thinks he's crazy, but Ella thinks he's cool. She likes him-a lot! When Charlie teaches Ella to astro project, she gets her two friends, Declan, and Ronan, to join Charlie in rescuing Scoochie. Astro Projecting with Charlie Novella is Dr. Canzoniero's fourth novel, but it is the first one directed at the middle school population. Dr. Canzoniero worked as a school psychologist in a Long Island Middle School for twenty-five years. He's very aware of the problems young people are experiencing in this troubling world and he hoped his story would bring a smile to their faces. Dr. Canzoniero's has been married to his wife, Dianne, for forty-nine years. They live in Flanders New Jersey. He's the proud father of four adult children and the grandfather of eleven grandchildren. His love of travel and underwater photography has taken him around the globe. He's a photographer, golfer, model railroader, and diehard Yankee fan.
