Adam Darnow, creation of the highly-rated Scottish author David Keachie, enters the fray again and this time, he has to get out or die.

Retired gangster Sir Mathieson Allanton is in trouble and for once, out of his depth. Someone with unlimited resources wants him dead and there's no shortage of professionals queuing up to take the money.

There's little time for him to escape back to his bolthole in Scotland and find why assassins are after him and who is paying their wages. Meanwhile, his young protégé, Adam Darnow, is trying to leave the business while he still has his health and at least a grain of his sanity left.

When he is suddenly drawn back into the disintegrating Allanton crime family business, Darnow has little option but to take the lead and investigate what is going on behind the chaos.

The whole mystery is made harder by a series of unplanned mishaps, a late winter highland white-out, a missing accountant with information on the location of their ill-gotten millions and what appears to be a never-ending night of contract killers on their doorstep. Adam Darnow realises he has to see this madness through till the end. The Allanton crime empire is threatened and only by helping them solve the mystery will he escape.

"Classic farce, with enough danger and action to sate the hungriest reader"

"Another cracker from a master of fast-paced Scottish fiction"

"It goes from strength to strength as the novel unfolds. A real page-turner which manages to weave mystery, dark comedy, and sometimes eye-watering violence together to make a gripping thriller"
