The Crystal Box
Margaret Mcbee
At university in Arizona, Caleb Stone, baseball jock and top scholar, meets Ana Tremain, self-proclaimed nerd and master of languages. She doesn't date jocks; he doesn't date nerds. Despite advice from their respective friends, love blooms, a love which is threatened by jealousy, religion, and plain old stubbornness. It doesn't help that her best friend is in love with her, too. Her grandmother dies, leaving her a crystal pendant and a parcel, locked away for fifty years, with cryptic instructions for its opening, many months away. When they finally unwrap the parcel in an open field in Oklahoma at midnight, during a particular meteor shower-the specified time and place-they find an old wooden box, intricately carved and bedecked with crystals glittering in the light of the moon, but it's missing a crystal. Their lives will be forever changed if they succeed in opening it as it leads down a path neither of them would ever have imagined.
