A well-educated person traverses the corridors of large organizations, counseling the powerful people who run them on major industry trends, imperatives, and insights. The person covers mergers and acquisitions, growth strategies, digital upheaval, and in her quest for her own ambition, develops some useful relationships in her education, career, and the world outside, which inform her world view. Her life has a trajectory of its own, of course. The person in her - now more a recipient than a driver or shaper of things - responds. The response takes her to new pastures, discoveries, delightful yet sobering realizations of life. The resulting phase is more self-reflective, pondering than cerebral. Diaries... Semolina Strauss is a witness to a similar journey. Its pages chronicle the discovery of a learning - and the subtle fondness that perhaps is tied more to an idea than any object - that gets unveiled from unlearning, taking what life has to offer with an open mind. Life has a transparency to it. So much, that we get by without noticing much of it at times. But that is not to say that the cerebral in us is not continuously putting two and two together, and a deeper in us is not silently observing all that surrounds us. We may not be putting pen to paper, but all of us catalogue our life's journey, our points of interactions that guide us, inform us. All of us keep diaries.
