Samantha is a happy, 'fat' girl. She was brought up by her grandparents who gave her everything she want; including a lot of food and sweets. Sam was a good and bright child. She was also surprisingly, quite athletic. Her grandparents, particularly her grandfather, Josh, wanted her to marry into a 'good' family. Josh thought she was a fine lady, deserving the best gentleman in town. But after a disturbing encounter with a son of a wealthy man, Samantha and her family were made to leave their town in Texas. Samantha and her grandparents moved to San Diego, in California. They started their own businesses. Samantha opened a Diner just opposite the beach. Her clients adored her sense of humor and the food. Her meals were good; with a loving home-cooked touch. Her business took off. Sam was content with her successful business, and tried to shut out her grandfather's insistence that she must go to college and marry a 'nice' man.
