WEST TEXAS after the Civil War. . . the small town of Kintire, near the foothills of the Guadalupe Mountains, is facing serious trouble. A promising new seam has been reported found in the derelict Silver Lode mine and the usual riffraff are gathering. Town founder Matt Kintire, now blind, broods at his Broken Arrow ranch while his son Grover and his gunmen swagger about the town undeterred by two corrupt lawmen. The worried town council want Square K rancher Virgil Kemp to repeat the role he played two decades earlier in restoring order. The blue-eyed Kemp, married to the beautiful Mexican girl Mercedes, refuses, not least because of his former lover, Carla Curtess, who runs the Frontier Saloon and Hotel, and her drunken, blue-eyed son Wayne. Suddenly violent, dramatic events change the whole picture. Meanwhile, watching from the heights of the Guadalupes, are the Mescalero Apaches. . .
