Discover the pleasures of a true Old World Christmas, and share the wonder with your children! Originally published in 1898, Christmas Entertainments brings together more than sixty "Fancy Drills, Acrostics, Motion Songs, Tableaux, Short Plays, and Recitations in Costume for Children of Five To Fifteen Years" by such Yuletide luminaries as Eugene Field and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, as well as by many lesser known but equally talented educators whose creative holiday musings appeared in the 19th Century periodical The School Journal. Giving equal time to Christian religious and secular "Santa Claus" themes, Christmas Entertainments is an ideal holiday pageant source and inspiration book for modern public school teachers and homeschool parents seeking to offer children a taste of what Christmas was like for American kids before TV, modernism, commercialism and "political correctness" so successfully conspired in our time to obscure the season's true meaning.
