Elizabeth Jade lives with her father in a small town Nebraska. She has dreams of becoming a teacher, but all of that seems impossible once her father announces that he has promised Elizabeth in marriage to a local man in the town. But Elizabeth refuses to let this happen and runs away from home. She ends up in the small town of Rothsburg and soon meets Peter Nietz.
