Through a kindred Indian spirit, Katherine Hampton, is mysteriously taken back in time to witness her great, great, great grandmother, Mary Kate Martin's, life. Mary Kate Martin is a beautiful, vibrant, young girl forced to leave her homeland to travel along the Oregon Trail. Her journey takes place in the mid 1800's and is an epic one, filled with tragedy, love, sorrow and finally, happiness. As each detail of Mary Kate's life is revealed to Katherine in her dreams, she is beckoned by the Indian spirit to embark on a journey across America to follow the path of her ancestor. Realizing that a higher Indian power has cursed her lineage, Katherine finds that the only way to stop the dreams, will be to solve the mystery, therefore breaking the curse. In doing so, she creates her own legacy which will continue in series of books that will be written to reveal the life story of each generation leading up to Katherine's birth.
