Contributor Bio:  Byers, MR Stephen P Stephen P. Byers was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1924. He held the rank of sergeant, serving in Europe with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry; wounded in Xanten, Germany, March 8, 1945. After the war, he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree from McGill University. He devoted his entire working career to industrial construction, participating in a variety of projects in Canada until 1972, followed by a relocation to Kansas City, serving as Construction Manager on a major commercial development in Missouri. He had wide experience as both actor and director with several Community Theater Companies in Kansas City, winning considerable acclaim as Clarence Darrow in the one-man play of the same name by David Rintels, a two-hour tour-de-force. In 1988, he retired to Arkansas where he embarked on a storytelling and creative writing career, serving ten years as the president of the Tellers of Tales, the storytelling guild of the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. In recognition of outstanding contributions to the Arkansas museums and the museum profession, he received the prestigious Arkansas Museums Association "Friend of the Museums Award," March 11, 1999, and the Governor's Volunteer Excellence Award from Governor Mike Huckabee, December 16, 1999. Despite a colon cancer incident (2002) and a heart attack (2011), he continues his active writing career, combined with daily physical exercise; at the age of 88 most observer's guess his age at 75, give or take a year or two. In 1948, he married Mary Elspeth Rankine. They live quietly in Rogers, Arkansas, particularly enjoying visits from their four children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
