Marc Notes: Has the interpreting world ever driven you nuts? Have you ever been frustrated with the people, the job, the life we lead as sign language interpreters? Have you ever felt like you were like the only interpreter who has made mistakes? Have you ever thought to yourself, 'I can't do this'? If that sounds like you, then this book will be the therapy for which you have longed. Join Samantha as she explores the field of interpreting and analyzes the positive and negative choices she and others have made along the way. This book is a raw look at what happens inside the hearts and minds of interpreters, and a crazy look at what can happen on the job. It challenges members of our field to break many of the cycles which have entangled us, and offers some reminders of truths many interpreters have forgotten. Get Real! is sarcastic, comedic, and thought provoking, and if you let it, it will grow and challenge you to be the best interpreter you can be. - Book cover. Biographical Note: Samantha Terzis spent her younger years in the San Diego Area. There she found her three primary loves, Art, Theatrical Lighting, and Sign Language. After graduating from high school, Samantha attended college in Santa Barbara, CA, earning a degree in Art with a minor in Theatre. In her summers and post graduation, she attended college in San Diego County majoring in Sign Language Interpreting. While in Interpreting School, Samantha became involved in Musical Interpreting competitions. Those competitions lead to the instigation of her professional Musical Interpreting career. She moved from San Diego to Nashville in order to interpret music in none other than Music City, U. S. A. In 1999, Samantha and several Deaf Community members gathered together to create Gate Communications, a national not-for-profit Deaf service and ministry organization. After a decade of teaching in a local ITP, she turned her full time and attention to Gate. Over the years Samantha has interpreted alongside of the most famous names in the music industry, but her heart forever carries a passion for what happens off stage as an Interpreting Instructor and LD. Today she serves as the Executive Director of Gate Communications. Samantha presently travels the country teaching workshops and when possible travels outside the U. S. to work with the Foreign Deaf Community. Contributor Bio:  Terzis, Samantha Samantha Terzis spent her younger years in the San Diego Area.
