Italy from I to Y?
James De Franco
The author?s decision to write a book about his observations of people and events in his life journey from his native Italy to Australia was made when he retired. He was suddenly made aware that the tools required for writing were somewhat different from the tools of his trade; where sharpness was essential in his trade, bluntness was essential for the book. Although he apologizes for the bluntness of his literary tools, he defends the message they convey: he loves both Italy and Australia. But being born in a particular part of the world should not impede or curtail our criticism of it. Man?s history is a tragic testimony of that, where sons and daughters have continued conflicts that were initiated by their fathers with their own criticism muted by the unquestioned love for the parent couple: the Father?Land, thus sadly neglecting the apolitically stateless Mother?Nature.
