This field guide has been developed to allow individuals, trained and experienced in the operation of a light meter, to conduct assessments of their exterior parking lot?s lighting, as a component of more broadly based efforts to identify and abate risk to individuals and infrastructure. This field guide is divided into four sections; the first describing the process for a comprehensive survey (the most reliable and accurate methodology), the second statistical sampling, and the third simplified sampling (the least reliable and accurate). Also discussed is calculated illumination.
