A new play out of time. Written entirely in early middle English, Six Lovers in Florence is a homage to the comedies of William Shakespeare. A charming tale perfect for reading in a cozy chair, or for the actor needing a "classical" performance piece that hasn't been done to death. The scene: Florence. Reggio loves Florena, who loves Lucio, who loves Elena, whose father wants her to marry the Duke. The Duke has sworn he will only wed the most perfect of women, and Romeo Montague's old flame, Rosaline just wants to get away from the bloodshed of her hometown. What this town needs is a devil-may-care rogue like Frederico to come and play matchmaker. Together with his servant, Tranio (who you've probably forgotten was even in The Taming of the Shrew), Frederico sets out to put the right pairs of lovers together. And if he happens to set a few more romances blazing and royally cheese off a prudish money lender in the process, more's the better. Spoiler alert: It ends happily. Includes two versions of the same play, a long and a short version.
