Applying medium and high voltage power capacitors in metal enclosed applications is uniquely important. When capacitors are used properly, they can be a very effective tool. For many of us, power factor correction and similar topics were briefly studied in basic electrical engineering courses in school. Capacitance and inductance were most likely studied in the first or second semester of ET 101. Capacitors and reactors are basically static devices, that when properly applied, function quite well. They normally do not cause issues on the electrical power system, but they do react to system disturbances. This book will discuss the basic concepts, system parameters, applications, and procedures needed to properly apply capacitor equipment. Passive filtering (capacitance and reactance) will also be discussed.
