A Year of Haiku and Senryu Lillian Grebanier
A Year of Haiku and Senryu
Lillian Grebanier
Lillian Grebanier's birthday was New Year's Day, so that, for her, birthday and new year's resolutions were one and the same. On her 85th birthday, January 1, 1997, she made a resolution to write one or more haiku or senryu each day for a whole year. Originally, the collated results were photocopied and distributed to her close relatives. Since others have enjoyed these poems and expressed interest, they are now brought together into this inspiring book of verse. The poems themselves are a wonderful window into the actively inquiring mind of an observant woman. For those of us who wonder if it is too late to take on something we want to do, the project, launched on Lillian Grebanier's 85th birthday, is itself an inspiration.
