Violet Newborn
My name is Violet A. Newborn; I am an SRA Survivor with a dissociative identity disorder. born on May 27, 1979, in Inglewood, California but raised in Memphis, TN. I remember floating above my body during sexual abuse as I watched my personality split over and over to save me. I decided to return to my body to rescue them upon returning to my body I realized that could hear the weeping inner childs' of the men who mounted me. I decided to stop my pornographic alphabet to the man and began soothing the little boy inside of him. After some time the men would still pay my mother and grandfather to visit me but they started to only talk, vent, and disclose their dark secrets to me. I would listen absorbing their anxieties it was just as traumatic as their touches. As an adult, I learned that I had taken on their personality into my psyche their confessed sins became my memories depicted in this 2015 video.
The church as an institution in the African American community has played a vital role from slavery to the present day, serving as an oasis from the maladies of the world. However, the African American church is not immune from sex abuse scandals. To this day they continue a legacy of secrecy towards protecting the abuser instead of providing hope and closure for the victim. I share my story to break that cycle and promote an extension of compassion towards everyone involved. I never had a chance to disclose my own abuse until I wrote my memoir," Only God Can Grow A Violet Out of A Pile of Dirt," in 2015. I have learned to listen to Survivors and offenders through creating products that empower, offer a chance to atone giving closure, and break the cycles by leaving a legacy of hope. Join me in the fight to eradicate child abuse & sexual violence off the face of the earth one journal at a time.
