Ann Margret (Mandy) is a waitress and Betty a chef. They work in the Diner on the road side and the Restaurant on the Lake side. Mandy and Betty dreams about a restaurant of their own. If they have a day off together, they might meet to play their home-made game, The World Game together with their children. In the game they learn about food, culture, music and a lot more from all over the world. They dream about going to Europe. Mandy to visiting Sweden and find out about her roots and Betty to Ireland. One day a Swede stops at the Diner for a cup of coffee and a sandwich. At the same time the girl from the Tattoo shop enters the Diner. The tattoo girl loves to talk with everybody. Now she talks with the Swede, telling him that Mandy comes from Sweden. Mandy doesn't get the chance to speak with him. When he has eaten he leaves his card. It turns out that he works at a production company. Could it be in television; the card doesn't tell. Two weeks later, a really snowy evening, two guests enter the Restaurant. One is Mike the Swede on his way back home via the airport in Sacramento. The other person, also from Sweden, is a co-worker to Mike. He is in the United States looking for people to their Swedish Television Show, called Roots.
