The United States Census Bureau calculates more than 4,000 churches close their doors each year, compared to just over 1,000 new church starts. So the net loss each year is 3,000 churches! This is the story of one church that did not. "Christ in the Heart of San Diego" was a 26,000 square-foot building used mostly for an hour on Sunday mornings. Once the largest Evangelical United Brethren Church west of the Rockies, Christ Church had declined from 700 members to an average worship attendance of 40. Today, Christ Ministry Center (CMC) opens our doors at 6:30 a.m. and closes them at 9:30 p.m. SEVEN DAYS A WEEK! We touch over 1,200 lives every week, offering "abundant help" for spiritual and physical necessities. CMC is completely self-sustaining, with no additional funds from the denomination or grants to operate. "The NOT FOR SALE Church" is the story of how God brought new life and purpose to a dying urban church. The Ministry Center Model tells the story of what lessons learned and universal principles that may help other churches facing closure.
