Thomas Jefferson "T. J." McTavish was one of the few to survive the sinking of the Lusitania, an ocean liner torpedoed by a German U-boat in May, 1915. T. J.'s mother sacrificed herself, thrusting T. J. into the arms of a stranger on a lifeboat.
T. J. grows to manhood assuming the sinking of the Lusitania was nothing more than a tragic act of war. Hired to investigate allegations of atrocities in Nazi Germany, he's about to discover how wrong he is.
In a Broadmoor mental hospital, nurse Olivia Allen grows concerned at the injuries she sees on one of her patients, a former member of the British admiralty. He and two other officers have ties to a suspicious package, lost twenty-five years ago. Within that package lies evidence linking the sinking of the Lusitania to the highest levels of the British military-and even to Winston Churchill himself.
If the contents of the package are revealed, the scandal will rock the British government on the eve of war with Germany. The admiralty will do whatever's necessary to prevent such humiliation-including arranging the deaths of a caring nurse and an overly inquisitive young man.
