The Log of a Cowboy, is a classic western fiction novel written in 1903 by American writer Andy Adams. The Log of a Cowboy is an account of a five month drive of 3,000 cattle from Brownsville, Texas to Montana during 1882 along the Great Western Cattle Trail. The genre fiction novel is a classic based on Andy Adams' own experiences, and it is considered by many to be literature & fiction's best account of Western Cowboy life. The Log of a Cowboy was Andy Adams' narrative response to his dissatisfaction of unrealistic cowboy fiction that was being published in the late 1800's.
