A lot of good skiers can ski 'fall you die' type terrain. And many of them get away with it for a long time, but then the unexpected happens, a slough avalanche takes away their footing and they plummet over a cliff, a binding breaks at an inopportune time and the skier cartwheels at high speeds over terrain too steep to self- arrest, hitting rocks and flipping through the air until they finally come to a stop as a bloody heap of flesh and broken bones. Only the very best get away unscathed from a lifetime of exposure to nature's most terrible and magnificent mountains. What they found they could handle in the world's most dangerous terrain was insignificant compared to the demons they battled within themselves.
