Garden Spiders Live in My Backyard is the second book in the In My Backyard series. It introduces children to the Black and Yellow Garden Spider with full-color photos of each stage in its life cycle. It begins with the female spider weaving a large orb web in the garden and follows her until she builds an egg sac in the fall. The book culminates with hundreds of tiny spiderlings emerging in the spring and beginning the life cycle all over again. Garden Spiders Live in My Backyard can be used to supplement the science curriculum, to teach life cycles, enhance insect and spider units, build understanding of biomes and habitats, and to build children's awareness of the world around them. Also included are open-ended questions to encourage little ones to make text-to-life connections, a vocabulary list, background information about spiders for parents and teachers, and instructions for making and displaying garden spiders in the classroom or home.
