Orphaned at a young age, Sammy is thrown head-first into Baltimore's social service system. There he bounces around in foster homes, fracturing his innocence along the way and forcing him to grown up before his time. Becoming untrusting in most things serves him well when at his last foster home he's faced with a situation that he can't escape from alone and seeks help from a friend from the old neighborhood. Before he knows it, Sammy is caught up in a world of violence, drugs, gambling and murder. It's a world he finds strangely comforting and a place he can belong. In the end he finds that those who he forgot about were his real friends and who he thought were his real friends end up betraying him in the ultimate way. Joining forces with old friends, they overcome this betrayal and manage to resurrect their friendships and old allegiances. Sammy would find out in the end that there's no place like home and there's no home like Charm City!
