Ride the Train--a novel in three parts--tells the story of individuals whose lives become interlocked in a struggle against The Party and the "disease." In Part I, Carla's son Jacob is tested for the disease. Upon returning home, she finds a plain white card bearing the words Do you want to ride the train? [those words should be italicized] When The Party comes for Jacob, Alex steps in to lead Carla and Jacob to a better life. In Part II, young Alex is placed on trial and witnesses the murder of his father. Forced aboard a train, he is transported to Camp 16, the worst place in the world that anyone can be sent. What he experiences at Camp 16 will affect the rest of his life and the lives of his friends. In Part III, Jacob has grown and joins with allies old and new in a final assault against The Party. The stakes are high, and the odds are stacked against him, but when life itself is on the line, he has no choice but to rise to the challenge. Carla, Alex, and Jacob must each come to terms with their beliefs and ideals in a world where life and the law are defined by zealotry, xenophobia, and ideology run amok.
