The History of Patten and Mt. Chase Debbie Coolong

In the evening shadow of Mt. Katahdin, in the northernmost part Maine's Penobscot County, lie the towns of Patten and Mt. Chase. Their history goes back to 1828, when the area was opening up to logging operations in the northern third of the state. The first settlers were true pioneer families who created communities in the wilderness. This history traces important events in the development of the communities from 1828 to 2016, provides the background of businesses and homes on Patten's Main Street, and takes an in-depth look at the area's schools, libraries, healthcare, emergency services, churches, social organizations, and recreation.
