This book is made up of sixteen short stories of actual encounters with creatures/animals during outdoor activities mainly around the author's home on Cape Cod. These encounters were spontaneous and unexpected and gave the author an appreciation of wildlife in general. The intent of the book is not only to entertain youngsters but to also educate them about wildlife that many of them have never seen or experienced. In addition, it is hoped that the experiences described will encourage youngsters to think about the importance of respect for all creatures and preservation of all life on the earth. The sixteen stories describe the actual interaction the author experienced with the little animals. Following each story is a picture of the subject animal and a description of each with interesting facts about them. This part is intended to educate youngsters, especially those not familiar with the subjects. The book's language at times is adult and may exceed a child's understanding of the terms used depending on his/her age. As an aid to understanding unfamiliar terms, there is a glossary in the back of the book used as an educational tool to expand a child's vocabulary. In addition, the description and facts sections may be used as a game in various ways to challenge youngsters in intellectual competitions.
