Imagine a world without names. Every child is raised by a single system. Governments taking away children upon birth and raising them, nameless, merely a number in a system until the age of sixteen, when the children reach Nascency and are released into the world. What happens if the System takes it a step further, and decides they get to choose who is deserving of life? What if you are one of the ones they decide doesn't quite meet their requirements?*************Friendships aren't encouraged in the compound because no one knows where they are going to end up when they leave. It can be traumatizing to find out your best friend is going to be living across the world from you, not even in the same timezone. Of course, there are always a few people who refuse to listen to these rules though, myself, for example. The commotion down the hall is being caused by two people in the C year. They've been a couple for almost two years now, and the enforcers caught them being a little too friendly in the hallway. They pull the girl off of the guy and begin to drag her down the hall away from him. The girl is screaming, and yet no one does anything, not even when the enforcers continually electrifying her with the prod. The boy is lying on the ground, his nose bleeding. It's all part of the system, and we have to trust the system.
