The maktab is a primary system of Islamic and Quran education. The Arabic term 'maktab' has been used from the time of Umar ibn Al Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). In a maktab, children learn Arabic letters, pronunciation, and reading of the Quran. They also learn Islamic theology (aqidah), practice (fiqh), Islamic history (including the sirah), morals, manners, and hadith. This class register is a tool for teachers and administrators to run an organized and successful maktab in their masjid or home. It provides a set of planning and monitoring tools that have been implemented practically for many years to run a successful English language maktab system. With this register, teachers have tools to successfully operate a maktab up to the eighth grade. The register includes a curriculum and syllabus, performance monitoring sheets, rubrics and comprehensive assessments, and other useful administrative and teaching tools.
