The President has done something stupid and might be impeached. The Vice President has been arrested for attempted murder. If they are both forced out of office, Representative Claire Winton, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, is next in line for the presidency. Claire has been in Washington for years and is well respected. She gets along with everyone and can bring about compromises with other legislators when others can't. It's almost as though she can read people's minds. Claire gets a visit from the Director of the FBI and two Group W FBI agents who are telepathic. Claire has been on the verge of telepathy her whole life, so the agents "open her mind." Claire meets the other members of Group W in a whirlwind trip to central Illinois. The current first lady does not want to give up her place in the White House and holds Claire responsible for the president's problems. She arranges attacks on Claire using deadly force. With her ability to read minds, and with the help of the six other telepathic members of Group W, Claire must navigate her way through a roller coaster impeachment process that consumes the nation. Will Claire survive to become president? Can she navigate the political landscape?
