The book is erotic only in the sense that it is a fantasy about a non-traditional subject. It is a love story between two individuals who live their lives as a female pet and her owner. There is some erotic language, but the book is not pornographic. There are no actual sex scenes, but there are discussions about female anatomy.
Samantha or Sam, as she likes to be called, lives in an alternate universe. Her world is similar to our world in many ways, but the lifestyles, norms and mores are different. Even the government and legal system operate differently.
The authorities require that all persons register to be drafted for government service when they turn eighteen. After they are registered, males and females are placed in a lottery system to be drafted if their skills are ever needed.
However, when they fail to register after they turn eighteen, males and females are arrested and forced to register immediately. During this forced registration, they must also undergo a physical examination. They are tagged with an identification marking, and a GPS locator is inserted under their skin for location purposes. Males are usually sentenced to a period of forced labor. Females are left with few cognitive abilities and become someone's pet.
Sam was not very diligent and failed to register on time. She was attending college when an unfortunate event changed her life forever, and she came face to face with a life changing dilemma. She had an automobile accident which cause the authorities to discover her failure to register. They arrested her and forced her to register and be tagged as a felon. She is horrified to learn the consequences of her failure. After they register her, they release her temporarily to await her trial date. The sentence results in the loss of her freedom to live her life as a normal girl. They plan to remove most of her cognitive abilities and sell her as a naked pet at an auction.
She is tormented by the fact that she will always be naked and owned by some stranger. She and a friend, who is also faced with this future, begin to work together to plan and learn how to adapt to being someone's pet.
Eventually, her friend is arrested and transformed. Sam is frustrated. One night she accidentally meets Tom in an elevator while on her way to her apartment. They become friends, but almost lose each other when Sam has to attend a basic training course. When she returns, she tells Tom about her dilemma. He is not turned off by what she is to become and obtains legal representation to help her avoid her transition.
She adapts to her world of being naked and eventually would not live her life any other way. She and Tom begin to live together as a man and pet, avoiding any chance of a transition for her to be sold to a stranger. They have a topsy/turvy relationship. She is very devious and always loves to play little games with him while trying to get him to keep her sexually satisfied.
The authorities require him to keep her naked and on a leash. Even though she loses her freedom, she remains human with Tom always at her side holding on to her leash. It becomes her safety blanket. She is unafraid to be led around in public displaying her naked body to all who will pet her and feed her goodies.
The plot becomes a love story as they live their lives on his farm while he writes books about their relationship. As her life evolved, she becomes more nocturnal and more of an animal that loves to roam the woods and meadows when she thinks he is sleeping. Their life turns out to be blissful for both of them.
