Something odd is going on. One day, X. J. Muldoon finds his old acquaintance Bradford Sailwell "dead and practically naked on his own private beach...just a few yards away from a tilted, triangular hang-glider. It turns out that Brad, not long ago at all, had been up in the air, hang-gliding for the first time in his life and showing off to a new girlfriend, whose smile and squint had cheered him to his doom."
