Rachel Altman isn't sure she is ready for another woman to walk out of her father's bedroom. A bookish teenager, Rachel is grappling with a new normal following her mother's death. Joanna Dugan, the woman now in Dan Altman's life, is a community college instructor in her late-40s and dating for the first time in a while. The story is told from two distinct perspectives as it alternates between the voice of the now motherless daughter and her father's new girlfriend. Set in Seattle, primarily during the three most beautiful months of the year, their story is an honest exploration of the ways in which people navigate life after a profound loss and how that loss shapes their decisions and relationships.
