American Fugitive
Norman Gould
The story begins with a dysfunctional childhood that help form the beliefs and situations that takes a "cute kid" to one of America's Most Wanted. A skinny, 25-year-old man escaped police this weekend by slithering through a window between the back and front seats of a patrol car and driving away. An overnight manhunt with 50 or so police and an airplane equipped with night vision equipment was called off Sunday morning after turning up nothing. Norman Gould, who was arrested at his mother's house Saturday for possessing dynamite, was waiting in the car while police searched the house."He was probably in there three to four hours. It was fairly warm, so the air conditioning was on and we were giving him water and things like that," said Silverton Police Chief Rick Lewis. Gould, 5-foot-10 and 120, crawled through a window meant to be too slender to fit through. He sped away with police scrambling to follow in other cars, then abandoned the police car near Molalla, a small town south of Portland. He fled on foot with a stolen assault rifle, cell phone and flashlight from the front of the police car. He also apparently found the keys to his handcuffs, because police found them in the car.
