Sparky is just a typical 12-year old kid that happens to be obsessed with baseball. His favorite major league baseball team is the New York Yankees. In 1962, his heroes, Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, are tearing up the American League for the Yankees. The baseball season was anything but typical. Sparky's mother had died, his dad had a new girlfriend that was the talk of the town. Trouble seemed to follow Sparky wherever he went. Sparky's adventure is definitely not a book for just teenagers. It's a story of an eventful spring, summer and fall in the small town of Clatonia, Nebraska. The town and historical events are real, but everything else about this adventure is the product of the author's imagination.
