Do you remember the good old summer days of long ago? Summertime in rural Maryland brings back great memories. Days seemed especially long. Hot, humid days were followed by afternoon thunderstorms. Those storms brought relief from the heat along with much-needed rain to water our gardens. Gardening was a part of our daily lives, providing food for the table. Canning provided tasty and healthy food for our families during the winter months. The hard work of gardening and farming was rewarded with so many fun things to do in our area. These activities included the Blairs Valley Picnic, Pinesburg Homecoming, Conomac Park in Williamsport, Rowe's Amusement Park near Wilson, carnivals, the Great Hagerstown Fair, fishing, swimming, boating, horseback riding, and warm evenings spent outdoors.
