This doctoral dissertation manuscript explores the relationship between an individual's calling in life, socio-economic status, and its ability to increase academic satisfaction. Having a calling in life has been shown to increase internal motivation. The implication of this research shows that businesses, such as universities, should align their students with a degree program that closely aligns with their desired calling. However, life events can get in the way of fulfilling a person's calling. Therefore, understanding how life events affect a calling will enable organizations, such as universities, to maximize internal motivation. This dissertation sheds light on the subject matter.
