From the Industrial Valleys of South Wales to the Virgin Bushveldt of South West Africa, Veins of Truth is set against a background of worlds in change. Our tale witnesses the traumatic demise of ancient and traditional lifestyles, societies swept away by man's greed for wealth and power. The novel has a rich background of political and social insights which bring reality to the very personal stories being told, as veins of truth flow through the body of the story, bringing life to the characters. The narrator, Jack Roberts, starts his journey as a naïve and somewhat foolish young man with little to distinguish him. As the story unfolds, he draws from the strengths and weaknesses of all those whom he encounters, learns from the triumphs and tragedies that beset him and finds inner strength to do battle with the greed and intolerance which bedevils the time and the place. The first Part of this trilogy deals with events leading to the Tsumeb expedition and the journey from South Wales to the Northern veld of what was at the time German South West Africa. It is a journey of exploration and self realisation. By the time that they near their destination at the ancient pits of Tsumeb, Jack and the team of pioneers show a cohesive energy and optimism for the mission ahead. They will need all this energy and spirit to prepare themselves for the events which will transpire as the story continues. The end of the dry season approaches and dark clouds are gathering over the mountains of Otavi.
