At the tender age of seventeen, Jennet is forced into an arranged marriage to a local village boy and give up her dream of going to university. With her mother's help Jennet flees her Turkmen village in the middle of the Karakum desert and lands in the heart of London. A chance meeting with her future English husband takes her to Suffolk, but the glittering life she hopes for turns out to be just an illusion - an illusion that only gets worse when she flees once again and ends up in the underworld where a nightclub owner, Simon, tries to push her into selling herself. Against the backdrop of a beautiful metropolitan city and hidden vice, Jennet questions herself about her identity, religion and values. Will she find enough courage to survive the new 'desert' she is now trying to escape or simply succumb to her fate?
