Summer's grandmother died before her thirteenth birthday and she was sent to live with rich relations she recently learned existed. Having a rich family is an unrealized dream of most poor Jamaican girls. After years of living in abject poverty, just her and her grandmother in a house with no running water or electricity, she fantasized about her new life, living uptown in a beautiful mansion; having a grandmother, uncle, aunts and best of all a father. But her fantasies are short lived. Her family wasn't as keen on adding a new member to their unit. They'd had bad blood with Summer's mother. Since she was dead Summer had to atone. While she lived with them the Bells worked hard at putting Summer in her place. Feeling dejected and unloved, Summer seeks love elsewhere. When she encounters Al, she couldn't help but be besotted like every other girl and gal in town. It took her a long time to believe the feelings were mutual but as she begins to settle into the security of his love and money, his world begins to blow up around them. She fights to overcome their obstacles; past flings; cruddy friendships, politicians, bankers, drug dealers and the American government. Nothing about her past had prepared her for her new life. She's fighting for them to make it out in one piece.
