The author is part of the Cuban 'diaspora', sometimes pushing off tears and other times laughing at the surprises they found stepping out into the world. The characters presented in this story are loosely based on typical persons and events occurring during those trying times due to political, unprecedented and amazing social changes in their lives. Carmen Albert is part of a large family, a very tightly knitted group, well rooted in the traditions of their country. This family participated in the colonizing endeavors in the Americas during the past three hundred years, and eventually, as a family joined in the efforts to create a working society in their country after braking ties with the European master. And now, as they left their country due to political changes, to create a new life abroad, they always keep in close touch, never forgetting their past, their love of family and their roots.
