Funny People
Wayne Ginter
Wayne M. Ginter adds a bit of the fantastic to everyday life in his new short story collection. Funny People takes ordinary people and places them in amazing situations. Each story carries a unique lesson about growing up, finding your own path in life, or learning to adapt to the obstacles you face along the way.
Ginter's "funny people" are down-to-earth souls dealing with very relatable issues. In one story, a schoolgirl feels uncertain about her future and turns to her wise grandmother for help. In another, a woman quietly resents her sister's dilettante attitude toward life. Other stories feature a lonely woman dreaming of swimming elephants, a thoroughly average man hiding a strange secret, and a tiny girl yearning to chase after fireflies.
Then, something startling happens. A lobster comes waltzing through the front door, hungry for his dinner. A street full of owls voice their thoughts in a way that shocks their audience. Visions of long-departed loved ones appear, and the walls between fantasy and reality begin to fade. As the characters are confronted with fantastic dreams or nightmares, they each must make a choice whether to give in to the magic or deny it.
