Catherine Gierlach Kennedy
It is 1929. Nineteen-year-old Anna lives a sheltered life in Petroleum City, Pennsylvania. Her joyful innocence endears her to everyone she meets. Anna leaves this safe haven to join a convent in Kentucky intent on becoming a nun. But these cloistered nuns do not speak, and Anna soon realizes that their life cannot be hers. She embarks on a life-affirming journey that takes her across the country to Seattle and then to the Galapagos Islands where a series of tragedies test her faith in God and herself. Will Anna retain her sunny outlook? Or will she emerge from her chrysalis as a different person?
