The world's recent economic upheavals are over, and Rich Fournier is looking forward to getting his first real job with his newly acquired degree, but at present, he's stuck working part-time at a retail warehouse. Maybe once he's earned enough money he can get himself a sub-derm implant and join the rest of the modern world immersed in the virtuality. Meanwhile, in his palace half-a-world away, President David Jurgen of Zimbabwe unleashes a weapon against the world that will bring humanity to its knees. His goal is to populate the entire earth with the followers of the Danvers Church, once he has eradicated the rest of humanity.
