Note from the compiler Sarena was 11 years old when we contracted to go to the Amazon for 18 months to rebuild an abandoned Bible school for the Ticuna tribe. For one and a half years she and three siblings lived with her parents on the edge of the Amazon River in an old house with no lights except for candles. The only communication we had with the world we once knew was to make a three hour boat trip to Leticia, Colombia and get online. During this time Sarena started writing some of these poems. When her parents decided to return to the Amazon after that 18 months was over, Sarena returned and started putting some of the poems on a website. Fortunately, they copyrighted them in her name so no one else could use them. These poems have become my joy and also a gauge to Sarena's health both physically and mentally. A couple of years ago, she gave me permission to organize them into a book. In these poems you will find inspiration from songs or movies. You will find thoughts of people that she has known, and congratulations or birthday wishes for some. You will find her teen-age crushes and thoughts on just about everything. Most of all you will find her deep love to her God. Sarena lost two young friends to tragedy. You will find her sadness for ones who have died and find that even years later she is still mourning for them. Maybe you don't believe that people who die are angels; but in these poems you will find that Sarena does. I have found comfort from her thoughts many times and I hope they do the same for you no matter what you believe. This book is a compilation of some of the things Sarena loves-poetry and pictures.
