Jacob Fetter was a Quaker farming in the country in Lancaster Pennsylvania. Rumors of war had surfaced and news traveled by a rider on horseback, or was printed in newspapers. Jacob, his family and neighbors wish to live in peace with the right to worship as they wish. There had been Indian raids against the colonists west of their home, across the Susquehanna River. The French had fought the British. Now there is a lot of ruckus about unfair taxes. What is about to happen to him and his neighbors was not what they had been expecting. Their life becomes turmoil in an area they expected to have peace. The Indians had been raiding the area of the Oliver's as well. In 1775 the Oliver's were in protest of the Sugar Act and the Stamp Act. The Oliver's of the Jamestown and surrounding areas have to protect their Income, their land, and their property. The Redcoats were being abusive ad trying to force the colonists. The Oliver family grew and expanded to the surrounding counties of Jamestown. The Oliver's fought for their freedom from England in the areas of South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. Most of the Virginia battles were right at their home front on the Chesapeake Bay. Seven brothers went to war, and six returned alive. The Posterity of both the Oliver's and the Fetter families would end up in the war. They fought for states' rights, tariffs, freedom, Taxation, fair trade, land, religion, and economic freedom in the new world.
