The group Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)is developed specifically for handling the challenging and often frustrating treatment variables associated with adolescents in a residential treatment setting who are battling substance abuse and dependence. MET addresses these and other concerns through the use of a client-centred therapeutic focus that, ultimately, use non-directive techniques and language in order to facilitate motivation to change addictive behaviors. MET utilizes recognized counseling techniques such as asking open-ended questions, reflective listening, building rapport, providing empathy and support, working on self-efficacy, summarizing self-motivational materials, eliciting self-motivation statements, and evoking change through a plan. This book examines the effectiveness of MET in five weeks program entails ten sessions in a group format. The book has presented in five chapters. The first part about the negative impacts of addiction, the motivation to change process, group treatment of substance abuse, the principles of Motivational Interviewing, and stages of change. The second part entails the clinical study in details.
