Initiation of Spatial and Economic Urban Planning

City development is based on chosen principles, implicit or explicit. These are best expressed in a documented form on the lines of which city planning is practically followed. In the present context, Delhi city, the capital of India is taken as the case study. Here, master planning is the most dominant urban planning strategy. As of now, three documents published respectively as perspectives for years 1962, 2001 and 2021 have been the guiding ones for the planning of the city of Delhi. This volume brings out the historical background of planning of the city and analyses in detail the respective contents of these documents in a critical and comparative light. This is followed by a contemporary analysis of the documents in the context of selected best practices prevailing at various levels in the country and world wide.
